Pedago¹ko delo

The pedagogical work of the mime Andrés Valdés began immediately after his arrival to Ljubljana. He was teaching pantomime and mime in the years between 1964 and 1973 at the Ljubljana's Academy for Theatre, Radio, Film and Television. At the same time he conducted a seminar of pantomime and mime in the year 1965 at the Ballet School in Ljubljana.

It has always been Valdés's dream to spread the knowledge of pantomime to the wider circle of viewers. This desire grew stronger and he eventually started creating appropriate circumstances for the establishment of the first pantomime school in former Yugoslavia.

From the years 1979 and 1986 he conducted a series of very successful pantomime and mime seminars. This was the era when pantomime in Slovenia no longer presented "the art of one", because Valdés's former student and assistant Jana Kovaè started performing at his side.

Andrés Valdés, the master of pantomime and successful professor, realised his long desired dream in the year 1987 when he opened the studio with his name. The studio has been intended for studying pantomime and developing creativity. In the school, according to his own methodology, he has systematically and methodically continued the technique of Etienne Decroux.
24 years of pantomime tradition in Slovenia, due to persistence and dedicated work of Andrés Valdés, enabled the basis for creating the conditions which led to the birth of the first pantomime theatre in former Yugoslavia.

Besides being active in the studio and on the stage, Valdés also carried out the realization of the artistic work in a special group of his students. Their first appearance in front of the public took place on 23rd of November 1988 in Ljubljana, with the performance entitled Quiet, We Are Laughing!.
